When applying for a mortgage, you'll need to provide various documents to verify your financial situation and ensure you meet the requirements for the loan. While specific document requirements can vary among loan types, here's a general checklist of documents often requested during the mortgage application process.

Most recent 30-day paystubs

W-2s for the previous two years

Checking & and savings account statements for the last two months (all pages) Note: All non-payroll deposits must be documented/explained

Most recent statements for 401(k)s, stocks and other investments

Photo identification (valid driver's license or passport)

Self-Employeed Borrowers

Copies of the most recent two years' business and personal tax returns (with all schedules)

1099s or K-1 forms (if applicable)

YTD P&I balance sheet (if applicable)

Optional Documents for Extra Income

Awards/benefits letter showing current/projected monthly benefits for Social Security, retirement, disability, or pension income received

Child Support orders showing the current amount receiving

Additonal Documents that May Be Required

Veterans or Veteran Reservists: DD214 or DD256 form and certificate of eligibility

If you've filed for bankruptcy in the past seven years: Copies of petition and discharge, including supporting schedules A-K
